Our Little Girl

Hello readers.  Thank you for taking the time to read our blog.  My name is Jared, and this is my wife Kasia.  We met when we were both in college attending Brigham Young University.  She got her degree in Social Work, and I graduated in Japanese.  We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as "Mormons."  We live here in Chicago with our 2 girls (3-1/2 and 12 months) helping to run the family business.

And this is our little Wrigley.  She is going to be the Star of this blog!  When she was about 18 months old or so, we began to worry a bit about how she was developing.  Physically she was fine.  She has always been ABOVE the 95th percentile in height, weight...and head size (i give my Polish wife credit for that).  But she wasn't really speaking, and seemed to be a bit distant and not caught up in repetitive activities like stacking and lining things up.  We went to a special clinic to see what was going on after doing extensive research.  They did certain tests for about 2 hours, gathered together, and came back to tell us our daughter has been diagnosed with Autism.  We were a bit skeptical since we had done some research heading into the appointment.  I asked a simple question, like "Where would you put her on the spectrum of the Autism Disorder?"  And this crotchety old man just said "There's not really any such thing as a 'spectrum', she just has Autism." ........uh.......okay?  As most anyone knows, it is defined as a "spectrum disorder" so i have no idea what he was talking about, and we didn't really feel like talking to someone so ignorant about the topic.  They gave us a list of websites we should read, most of which we didn't find very helpful.   But, to make a long story short, my wife and i whole-heartedly belive that the vaccines Wrigley got when she was a baby, coupled with the ones my wife got when she was pregnant, was the cause of what gave our daughter Autism.  It has been a pretty bumpy ride, filled up up's, but mostly down's.  We are seeing some imporovements lately though and that has been exciting.  When you step back and look at it at a whole, you really can see how far she has come and the strides she has made.  She is 3-1/2 now.  She goes to school 5 days a week and loves it, she rides the bus and loves to talk with all her friends.  My wife will go into more detail about the treatment process we have used and all the experiences we have had along the way.  We hope for this blog to be informative, entertaining, helpful and even perhaps inspirational to all those who read it.
